Le Corbusier
Designer

Le Corbusier was born 1887 and was one of the great theoreticians of modern architecture. His designs in architecture, town planning and furniture are based on his theory of functionalism.

His designs from the 1920s were the basis for the International Style and most of his furniture designs were developed early in his career, in collaboration with his cousin and architectural partner, Pierre Jeanneret, as well as Charlotte Perriand. The metal furniture they designed in 1928 quickly became successful worldwide.

Le Corbusier was against the concept of furniture as pieces of art and wanted his designs to be considered useful objects, mass produced in the new machine-age and accessible to the public at large. Among his most famous furniture designs are the LC10 tables, as well as the LC4 chaise lounge, which is one of the most reproduced design objects in the world.
