Børge Mogensen was born in 1914 and graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1942. His furniture was designed with industrial production in mind and is characterised by strong and simple lines. He was opposed to exclusivity, “furniture should not be the reserve of the few, but something people in general should be able to enjoy”.
Some of his greatest classics were designed in collaborating with the Danish cooperative chain FDB, which provided Danes with quality furniture at affordable prices. One of the most famous of Børge Mogensen’s designs is the sofa 2213, which he specifically designed for his own house in Gentofte, North Copenhagen.
